US-CERT: 5,198 Software Flaws in 2005
Security researchers uncovered a record 5,198 vulnerabilities in software products
this year, nearly 38 percent more than the number of flaws found in 2004, according
to
statistics published by US-CERT, a cyber security information-sharing
collaboration between the Department of Homeland Security and the CERT Coordination Center at Carnegie
Mellon University in Pittsburgh.
According to US-CERT, researchers found 812 flaws in the Windows operating system,
2,328 problems in various versions of the Unix/Linux operating systems (Mac included).
An additional 2,058 flaws affected multiple operating systems. There may well have
been more than 5,198 flaws discovered this year; these were only the ones reported
to US-CERT.
Security and Business Benefits:
-
Accurate scanning "learns" the network as it scans and
runs tests based on your network configuration.
-
CVE-compatible vulnerability knowledge base consistently updated with
thousands of unique vulnerabilities.
-
Non-intrusive audits leave no impact on network.
-
Increases the value of your current security solution
by automating the validation of your systems' strengths and weaknesses.
-
Speeds vulnerability repairs and alleviates IT resource
and time constraints by ranking and prioritizing vulnerabilities and linking to
validated remedies.
-
Helps you comply with federal security regulations (SOX, FISMA, HIPAA,
etc.).
Complete Assessment and Discovery
AnalyzingIT® performs sophisticated remote scans and audits of UNIX, Windows, and
network infrastructures. Nessus discovers network devices and identifies the operating
systems, applications, databases, and services running on those assets. Any non-compliant
hosts, such as systems running P2P, spyware, or malware (worms, Trojans, etc.) are
detected and identified. AnalyzingIT®
is capable of scanning all ports on every device, test for open ports, and issue
remediation strategy suggestions as required. Unlike many other security scanners,
it does not make assumptions regarding port use, but will detect and test independently.
Once the devices are profile and baseline, subsequent scans can determine any changes to those devices. AnalyzingIT® provides the data ability to accurately identify inventory and system level configurations.
Given proper credentials, locally AnalyzingIT® can log into your Windows and UNIX
servers and perform a security audit of all missing patches. AnalyzingIT®
"local checks" supports the following UNIX and Windows operating
systems:
-
Windows: XP, 2003, and 2000
-
Linux: SuSE, Gentoo, Mandrake, RedHat Enterprise, Fedora
-
UNIX: OS X, Solaris, FreeBSD, and AIX
Your AnalyzingIT® free external scan includes:
-
A comprehensive report and external view of your network device
-
Thousand of vulnerability checks validating firewall configurations, intrusion detection systems, server configurations, and software patches
-
No financial obligation
